Project Outcome
In line with the global objective of the GATOM project, i.e. assessing the suitability of the available adult education/VET system for the (re-)qualification requirements of a mobile workforce preparing an occupational change while being in employment, 8 individual national assessment reports have been elaborated. These contrast the available training measures with the training needs of employees and employers and derive recommendations for policy makers, training providers and other relevant stakeholders for (further) improving the training market for the mobile workforce. Furthermore, the country-specific results have been compiled into an European assessment report, also addressing issues going beyond the countries and occupations covered by giving more general recommendations for gearing adult education towards occupational mobility.
All reports are available in English language.
The research findings at national level were summarised in abridged reports which illustrate the main results of the analysis of the VET/adult education instruments accessible for persons preparing an occupational change. They also include implications for an improvement of the existing education/training measures which build on the comparison of the requirements of the enterprise sector with the experiences of mobile workforce concerning their re-qualification. The elaborated recommendations and identified Good Practice examples across the European countries under consideration are addressed to policy makers, training providers and other relevant stakeholders for adapting the training measures to the needs of the mobile workforce.
The abridged reports are available in national language.

Furthermore, and against the background that among the available vocational and adult education measures there exist instruments that better satisfy the exigencies of (re-)qualification in the context of an occupational change than others, those training courses most adequate for people wishing to develop their competence base in order to being able to start a second career have been identified. The documents below provide practical information on exemplary training measures in selected professional fields to help individuals as well as employers when searching for appropriate qualification programmes in the context of an occupational change.
