Understanding of "occupational change" in the project
In general, there does not exist a common definition for "occupational change". Rather, the scientific literature shows a varied spectrum of different definitions, depending on the specific background of the authors and the purpose of the study. Accordingly, the project team has - on the basis of the existing literature - developed a working definition to be applied throughout the project. This is characterised by the following elements:
change into a new field of professional activity
substantial change of the work contents related to the job before and after the occupational change
necessity of different competences to fulfil the job-related tasks
not only an enlargement of activities/responsibility in terms of career development
The occupational change may be conducted with or withour geographic mobility as well as within the same company or by the involvement of different employers. However, the project focuses on persons preparing their occupational change during an upright employment.
